Helpful Tipsbiking tip for spine healthbiking tipsspine healthspine tips

Nowadays, biking is used as a recreational activity, a sport, and for exercising. However, if you are not careful, you can develop a biking injury in your neck and/or the back. Therefore, biking tips, safety measures when biking are crucial. Some of the factors that determine your biking style include:

  • The terrain
  • The type of bike you are riding
  • Purpose of riding the bike (recreational/sport/exercising)
  • Your body weight
  • Your height

This article will help you understand some of the prevention tips to follow when biking:

Choose a Comfortable Bike

When biking or looking to buy a bike you should choose a comfortable bike. Some people prefer a bike that has more shock absorption or has large tires to avoid developing jolts to the spine. Alternatively, you can customize your bike to suit your requirements. Therefore, you can change the position of the seat, handlebars, etc. to avoid developing neck or back pain.

Know your Biking Skill Level to Prevent a Biking Injury

Even though you know how to ride a bike, you need to understand the extent of your biking skills. Plus, it is important to be aware of your surroundings. Therefore, you will minimize the chance of injury. For instance, if you have not ridden a bike for a while, there is a chance that you will develop back/neck pain. Consequently, if you are riding in a place you are not familiar with, you might get into a situation where you need help. Therefore, checking researching the area is very important to reduce the risk of injury.

Don’t Drink and Ride

You should never drink and ride. Because drinking alcohol impairs judgment, makes you tired, and thus increases your chances of getting injured. Therefore, you should avoid drinking alcohol if you are planning to ride a bike.

Use Protective Gear to Prevent a Biking Injury

Lastly, using protective gear. For example, a helmet reduces the chances of injuring your head or your neck. Also, you can consider wearing gloves, kneecap protective gear and goggles to prevent debris and dirt from entering into your eyes.

If you follow these helpful tips, you will reduce the risk of head and /or neck pain significantly. Conclusively, if you sustain any injuries or you suspect to have a biking injury, seek medical attention from an experienced doctor as soon as possible.

You know, you cant make 100% of people happy 100% of the time. I get that. Sometimes I have gotten frustrated at SOC because of lack of communication however when I expressed my concerns, I have had my issues fixed right away and I get calls from office managers to understand the situation and make sure mistakes don't happen again. To me that is excellence. I also LOVE Gangavalli he's super cool and explains everything so thoroughly... I am having surgery soon, and I cant fully express how awesome it is to feel so confident in my surgeon... Thanks SOC for always looking for ways to improve and for making me feel heard, and comfortable. :)

Dr. Sahai is hands down the best surgeon around. He has worked with me through my herniated disc treatment. I could not ask for a more detailed doctor. He has carefully explained each procedure into detail for me to fully understand so i can make the best decision for myself. I am now 2 months post -surgery and on my way to 100% pain free thanks to him! Dr. Sahai is a miracle worker! A++++
